“PAB” refers to the act of folding, while “PABPIEB” describes a traditional Thai sitting position in which the hips rest on the floor and both legs are folded to one side. Inspired by this gesture, the project explores folding as both form and movement.
Flowers, plants, and fruits used in traditional offerings and table decorations are reinterpreted through deconstruction, transforming their natural forms into new shapes through folding. This work connects everyday Thai gestures with their expression in decorative and artistic practices.
Developed by Thyme Neelaphanakul, the artist behind the PABPIEB project, the work is rooted in her experience with flowers and natural materials. Observing traditional Thai arrangement techniques—where elements are folded, bent, and carefully constructed—she translates these processes into contemporary craft. Through cutting, folding, bending, and shaping, materials are transformed into sculptural art pieces. The works are currently created using leather, with ongoing exploration of new materials to expand the practice.PABPIEB PROJECT THYME NEELAPHANAKUL
